Glass blowing and lampworking
I have been working in glass for 15 years, since the day I stumbled upon a lampworker in a studio in Jersey. I am fascinated by glass and it’s interaction with light and other materials, and I love how there’s always more techniques to learn and things to try!
I always make pieces that are functional as well as beautiful, designed to be worn and displayed. Art has a place in this world and that place should not always be as an object to be admired at a distance. I love finding designs that resonate with people and trying to predict who is going to like what- even after all this time, people still surprise me with what they are drawn to.
Lampworking
Lampworking involves making small scale glass pieces using a blowtorch. It allows an artist the ability to affect shape and colour in real time through physical manipulation and the application of temperature.
I make glass jewellery and other items like plant stakes, glass flowers and pocket pieces in a shed at the bottom of my garden. I use effetre soft glass from Murano, Italy and fire all pieces over hours for maximum strength and durability.
Glass Blowing
I learned glass blowing at The Glass Hub in Wiltshire. Whilst there are similarities between glass blowing and lampworking, glass blowing opens up a world of possibilities in terms of scale, teamworking and cold working processes. I create my own work and also provide glassblowing assistant and community demonstration services.
